Limescale Inhibitors

Limescale inhibitor is a device or chemical liquid treatment that prevents limescale from forming inside your central heating system and its pipes. Without limescale central heating inhibitor, the limescale will stop the heat exchangers from working properly. The inhibitor will prevent the build-up of sludge before it begins.

HOW TO RUN LIMESCALE INHIBITORS INTO THE SYSTEM

Limescale inhibitor can be added to your system in a number of ways depending on the system you have:

·         Directly into your radiators

·         In the loft tank

·         Into the magnetic filter

ADVANTAGES OF LIMESCALE INHIBITORS

A limescale inhibitor will effectively cut through the dirt and grime which builds up inside your system. It’ll reduce corrosion and help the water flow at a better rate, increasing the life of your system, efficiency, and its components.

A huge benefit is that overall, it will save you money. From the price of the inhibitor, you’ll be saving money on boiler system repairs or replacement parts when the limescale and sludge builds up. After inserting it into your system, it will also need no maintenance as your system will work the inhibitor around itself effectively.

METHODS OF HOW THEY WORK

Limescale inhibitors work through different methods:

·         Electrolytic Inhibitors:

These devices release small amounts of zinc into the water, which then bonds to dissolved calcium ions. This action suppresses the formation of hard scale and helps wash away any micro-crystals that form.

·         Magnetic Inhibitors:

By applying a magnetic field, these inhibitors alter the crystal structure of the scale. They encourage the formation of more "needle-like" aragonite crystals, which find it harder to stick to heat-exchange surfaces compared to normal calcite deposits.

·         TAC Technology (Template Assisted Crystallization):

This method renders limescale-forming molecules, like calcium and magnesium, inactive by changing their chemical state. The chemistry of the water itself remains unchanged, meaning you still get mineral-rich water but without the damaging scale.
